A classic comedy movie with hypnosis scenes?

I'm not sure about the details as I saw it when I was just a child…but I distinctively remember a therapist (or a doctor or something) that hypnosed the main actor and took him back to his childhood (including his birthday as a child).
The film is a comedy, black and white…and if the memory serves, I think it was Gene Kelly but not certain at all.
